Unique Father's Day Activities for Seniors in Peoria, IL

Every year, Father's Day rolls around on the third Sunday of June, and yet, you're always caught off guard when the holiday finally arrives. You feel guilty that you haven't given Dad the best celebrations in previous years, and you want to step it up for 2025.

Those who really want to impress their dads will want unique Father's Day activities to do. For a little inspiration, we've curated a list of holiday events for the elderly that you can do in Peoria, IL. That way, you can celebrate your dad without putting in too much work.

Have Father's Day Brunch at Camp Aramoni

Camp Aramoni isn't actually in Peoria, but you'll want to go big or go home for Father's Day brunch! Camp Aramoni is a boutique campground and event venue built in a former 19th-century brickyard, and you're surrounded by 96 acres of beautiful forests. This family-owned business aims to preserve the past, so you'll thoroughly enjoy this restored brickyard.

As for the brunch itself, you won't have to worry about going hungry. For just $32, you'll get a hearty meal; children under 10 get to eat for only $10. There's also a cash bar where you can order:

  • Themed cocktails
  • Bloody Marys
  • Mimosas
  • Nonalcoholic drinks

Reservations are required, so make sure you get yours in ASAP!

Attend Fathers & Floats at Peoria Zoo

Peoria Zoo is the perfect place to go for intergenerational bonding, as people of all ages love to see exotic animals. During Fathers & Floats, all dads get free admission with a free child, so you should bring your little ones.

All dads can grab a free root beer float at Zambezi River Lodge, so don't miss out on that. This event runs on Father's Day itself from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm, so get there early to take full advantage and see the entire park with plenty of time. Exhibits include:

  • Africa!
  • Asian Trail
  • Australia Walk-About
  • Conservation Center
  • Tropics Building
  • Contact Barn

Participate in Senior Morning at Peoria Riverfront Museum

This event isn't technically on Father's Day, but the Peoria Riverfront Museum puts on Senior Day every third Wednesday of every month. As part of their services to help older adults, this museum allows members and seniors over 60 to go through the exhibitions and daytime planetarium shows for free.

First, you can arrive in the morning at 10:00 am for some hot coffee and tasty pastries. Then, there's a 10:30 am discussion (hence the "Senior Morning" title). After the discussion, you're then free to stay for the entire day for fun Peoria senior living activities.

While reservations aren't required, we'd suggest making one, especially if you're coming with a large group. That way, the museum can be prepared to accommodate you.

Walk Through Luthy Botanical Garden

Many retirement communities have gardens as part of their services and amenities, so you may already be familiar with family time in senior care. However, if you're looking for greenery outside of the community, then you should take Dad to Luthy Botanical Gardens.

This garden spans over five acres in Glen Oak Park, and you can see flora from all over the world. You'll find:

  • A tropical conservatory
  • A theme garden
  • Seasonal shows (including the Poinsettia Show from November to December)

It's a serene place to bring your father if he appreciates nature and tranquility.

Catch a Peoria Symphony Orchestra Performance

One of the best Father's Day celebration ideas is to see a live orchestral performance, especially if family members aren't very mobile. Not only do you get a chance to soak in some amazing pieces, but you can also sit while doing so.

Do note that the orchestra seems to only put on one concert per month, and the June date hasn't been released yet at the time of writing. So they may not have a concert for Father's Day itself, but whichever date they pick, the orchestra is sure to have a stunning performance in store!

Go to the Father's Day R&B Party and Comedy Show

The Father's Day R&B party and comedy show may not be an event in Peoria itself, but it's worth the 1.5-hour drive to Rock Island. There's lots to do in the city anyway, and you can end a fantastic Father's Day by coming to this party and comedy show.

It starts at 7:00 pm, and it'll be hours of music, fun, and most importantly, laughter. It's an evening packed with R&B performances and comedy acts, so you and Dad will have a great time bonding over what you've seen.

Go on a Self-Guided Mural Tour

Many people don't know this, but Peoria has several murals all over town. There are over 60, and many are created by local artists.

The self-guided mural tour is the perfect way to take in this artwork. And no one has to be overexerted, as you can go at your own pace.

Big Picture Peoria has a map that shows where all the murals are in the city. Load the website up, and as you pass by each piece, you can click on it on the map to see the artist and year it was created.

You can pick up Dad and go on this leisurely walk whenever you wish on Father's Day, so there's no rush to catch business hours. It's a great laid-back way to celebrate this holiday!
